Writer 황재희 Date 2021.04.23

The Korea Coast Guard (KCG) announced that it attended the 21st North Pacific Coast Guard Forum (NPCGF) Experts Meeting. This year, the event was held in a form of video conference hosted by the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) for three days from April 20 to 22.

At the meeting, various action items were discussed including joint responses to martime disasters in the North Pacific, joint efforts to eradicate IUU fishing and information sharing regarding illegal drug trafficking and illegal migration.

An official from the KCG said, "The meeting was held virtually due to COVID-19, but there were fruitful discussions on ways to facilitate active exchange of information and maintain stable and swift support system. Based on the results of the meeting, we will continue to deepen our partnership with member countries in the North Pacific."

Meanwhile, since 2000, the NPCGF has been participated by coast guard agencies of 6 countries: South Korea, the United States, China, Japan, Russia and Canada.

A host country of the meeting is rotated among the member states every year, and South Korea is scheduled to host the event next year.
