On the 24th, the Korea Coast Guard (KCG) announced that it will strongly crack down on foreign fishing boats that are illegally fishing in the West Sea. As the number of Chinese fishing boats has increased significantly, the maritime police have operated riot squads three times since the 5th of this month, leaving 7,196 ships between the 1st and the 23rd of this month.

The number of group invasions by foreign fishing boats tripled from about 100 last year to 340 this year. The maritime police plan to block illegal fishing by strictly cracking down on foreign fishing boats that resist the execution of their official duties due to the ongoing mass invasion.

In response, the Korea Coast Guard held a meeting with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, and the Navy on Tuesday to eradicate illegal fishing by foreign fishing boats. As the number of foreign fishing boats intruding into the area jumped to an average of 340 a day in October, the meeting discussed ways to establish cooperation among related organizations, prevent corona 19, and diplomatic efforts.

First of all, the government will draw up a plan to crack down on the capture of new types of illegal fishing, including the wearing of protective clothing, and discuss strategies for different types of fishing, including obstruction of light ships.

In particular, the agency thoroughly implemented corona 19 procedures to crack down on foreign fishing boats illegally fishing by force, preventing the inflow of infectious diseases to fishing boats and sailors, and completed consultations with the Korea Centers for Disease Control.

The navy also developed a joint crackdown strategy with related organizations such as the West Sea Fisheries Management Team. "We plan to crack down on illegal fishing boats that are strong in harsh environments such as the Corona 19 crisis," said Kim Hong-hee, head of the Korea Coast Guard.
