The Korea Coast Guard appointed the first female staff as a head of the VTS Center in 47 years after the establishment of the Traffic Control Center.
The head of the VTS center has been appointed for the first time ever. The Korea Coast Guard announced that Lee Seung-ho, the head of the team, will be promoted to secretary and appointed head of the Yeosu Port Maritime Traffic Control Center. In 1973, the first female control center chief was elected since the first female ship traffic controller began to work, marking a big difference in women's status in maritime safety and control. There are a total of 20 marine traffic control centers nationwide that provide safety information and port management information to enhance marine traffic safety and protect marine environment and facilities.
Lee Seung-ho, who is in charge of the safety of the Yeosu area, joined the Incheon Maritime Traffic Control Center in 2001 when he was from Jincheon, North Chungcheong Province and was mostly male employees. Since then, they have thoroughly carried out controller work, radar, and maintenance work of control facilities, and have accumulated know-how in the control field. In particular, "When I was acting director of the Pyeongtaek Port Control Center for the past seven months, I was able to manage the organization well and ensure maritime traffic safety, and I expect to be the first female director."
"We will do our best to ensure the safety of Yeosu Port and nearby vessels, which are highly dangerous and complicated, and to become Yeosu Port Maritime Traffic Control Center," said Lee.
