International drug gangsters who smuggled drugs produced in Russia through sea routes into the country and distributed them have been caught by the Korea Coast Guard.
The Criminal Division of the Korea Coast Guard announced on Thursday that it arrested five former Russian suspects in their 40s who brought Russian drugs into Korea and distributed them to the prosecution on charges of violating the Narcotics Control Law. In addition, seven remaining dealers, including Russian B (in their 20s), and Uzbek C (in their 30s), who bought drugs from them and smoked, were indicted without detention on the same charges.
Suspects A, who are believed to be members of the Russian mafia organization, smuggled four kilograms of hash worth 400 million won into the port of Busan on a ship leaving Vladivostok, Russia, for a year starting in May last year. The suspects reportedly distributed 1.8 kilograms of drugs smuggled into the metropolitan area, South Chungcheong Province, and North Jeolla Province to foreign workers.
In the process of arresting the suspects, the maritime police confiscated 2.2 kilograms of hash time (equivalent to 220 million won) and 42.5 grams of so-called "spice" of synthetic cannabis. In the case of hashing, it is the largest amount ever seized from a single smuggling case.
