The Korea Coast Guard will launch a special crackdown on maritime related workers' human rights violations in the first half of the year from the 18th to the 30th of next month. The special crackdown will focus on cracking down on human rights violations targeting migrant workers and others who are relatively in the blind spot of human rights. Subject to the crackdown are violations of human rights of migrant workers in the sea, acts of inducement, detention, assault, and wage extortion of disabled people at fish farms and salt farms in the islands, acts of acquittal or forced boarding of crew members on long-term fishing boats, acts of abuse, assault, and sexual harassment against reserve and apprentice sailors. In addition, the KCG regularly conducts surveys and fact-finding surveys so that marine workers can report or consult on human rights violations in person. In particular, it will conduct an on-site investigation into human rights violations involving migrant workers or disabled people in connection with human rights groups or foreign organizations.
