The Tongyeong KCG Station said that it detected the Sacheon-based fishing boat after nine days of tracking it for allegedly contaminating the sea with oil spills at a new port in Samcheonpo, Sacheon. At 8:11 a.m. on the 11th of July, after receiving a report that there is a 20-meter-long, 2-meter-wide black oil slick along the inner wall, the Sacheon City Hall, the Port Management Office, and the Korea Maritime Environmental Management Corporation jointly removed the oil slick and completed the emergency measures in three hours later. The Tongyeong Coast Guard found the boat after an undercover pollution investigation to find out the suspect boat by checking the oil species, collecting CCTV data and samples of suspected oil.
