KCG to launch a special crackdown against marine pollution with other countries
Writer 황재희 Date 2021.02.24

The Korea Coast Guard (KCG) announced that a nationwide special crackdown will be carried out in March in order to eradicate illegal activities of discharging pollutants into the sea from ships and maritime facilities.

It is as part of the global law enforcement involving 56 countries led by Interpol, the world’s largest international police organization.

Interpole incorporated marine pollution crimes into its subjects of the law enforcement operations in 2017 and has been cracking down on illegal activities of toxic waste material dumped into the ocean.

Against this backdrop, the KCG has actively joined the international efforts to counter marine pollution crimes by planning to monitor and patrol domestic and foreign vessels alike and marine facilities jointly with the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries for all types of water materials that are subje ct to international regulations.
