The Korea Coast Guard will award a letter of appreciation to the Trans-Pacific Journey Fishing Group, a Philippine shipping company that rescued all of the crew members of the Korean ship's deep-sea fishing boat that sank in waters near Papua New Guinea. At 10:48 a.m. on the 21st of last month, Hansung Corporation's tuna fishing vessel "Lim Discover (Busan ship, 1,016 tons, tuna boat, 24 crew members)" crashed into a reef while moving to a fishing site from the South Pacific port of Papua New Guinea. The Korea Coast Guard made emergency rescue calls to the rescue center (MRCC) in Papua New Guinea, Australia, near the accident area, and the Philippine shipping company Trans-Pacific Journey Fishing Group dispatched its deep-sea fishing boat to the scene and delivered real-time information on the site's rescue. All 24 crew members (9 Koreans and 15 foreigners) who were waiting for rescue after escaping from an accident fishing boat were quickly rescued by a Philippine deep-sea fishing boat that arrived at the scene. An official from the Korea Coast Guard said, "We were able to save noble lives due to the active rescue of Philippine fishing boats in a tense and unfortunate situation as our people are in danger. This is an exemplary example of the importance of civilian cooperation in preventing and rescuing accidents in the sea, and we express our special gratitude."
