The Korea Coast Guard said that it has selected the nickname of the two new mid-sized helicopters, which were introduced at the end of December last year, as "White Suri" through a public offering of all employees.
"White Eagle" is short for "White-tailed Sea Eagle," a symbol of the Korea Coast Guard, and contains symbols unique to the maritime police, such as the nickname "Chamsuri," "Jeju Fire," and "Marineon," which are used by regional coast guard headquarters.
In order to effectively cope with tight maritime security and search structure, "White Suri" was contracted with Korea Aerospace Industries in 2016 to purchase two Korean mid-sized helicopters.
The helicopter can carry a maximum cruise speed of 276 km/h, a maximum range of 685 km and a maximum of 3.7 hours, and can carry up to 16 people. It is equipped with a search radar that can automatically track up to 200 targets, a high-performance electro-optical infrared camera, and an external lifting device.
