 The KCG chief Cho Hyun-bae and Ecuador's Navy Chief of Staff Darwin Harin Sisnero signed an agreement for cooperation in maritime safety at the presidential palace in Ecuador. Prime Minister Lee Nak-yon and Ecuadorian President Lenin Moreno also attended the signing ceremony to pray for the two countries' maritime safety. Through the cooperation, the KCG have laid the foundation for a quick response to an accident in waters near Ecuador through direct communication channels from the maritime agencies of the two countries. At the meeting, the Ecuadorian Navy asked the Coast Guard to transfer KCG’s capabilities to combat illegal fishing vessel from all over the world that are thriving in the sea near the Galapagos Islands. Accordingly, the Korea Coast Guard plans to invite Ecuadorian naval officials to teach them how to crack down on illegal fishing vessels and provide them with proper equipments.
