Following the reorganization of the government, the Korea Coast Guard headquarters officially launched as the Korea Coast Guard. It has been two years and eight months since it was dismantled to take responsibility for the Sewol ferry disaster, and has been reborn as an independent organization under the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries. The Korea Coast Guard announced on the same day that they will make a 'solid safety' that the public feels, 'right sovereignty' that protects our seas from neighboring countries, 'fair security' that takes care of the people's livelihoods at the side of the socially weak, 'clean sea' that preserves the marine environment, and 'organizational culture' that are on the basis of mutual respect. The Korea Coast Guard has made every effort to become an organization responsible for protecting sovereignty and the safety of the people in coastal areas. It relocated 70 percent of its police officers to work on the site and integrated and improved operation of the Vessel Traffic Control System (VTS). It also made a special rescue team and increased the number of rescue officers by 30 percent.
