(2020.12.14.) Revision of the Maritime Security Law clarifies legal grounds for maritime anti-terrorism organizations
Writer 이은섭 Date 2021.01.26

The Korea Coast Guard announced yesterday that the National Assembly passed the "Sea Security Act," a revision that includes the prevention and response activities of maritime terrorism that took place on September 9.

From now on, the Korea Coast Guard should draw up a "Basic Plan for Ocean-to-Terrorism" every five years and cooperate with related organizations to promote prevention and response activities against maritime terrorism.

It is the first state organization to carry out anti-terrorism duties since the enactment of the Anti-Terrorism Law that clearly states the specific responsibilities and obligations of the maritime police to guarantee effective anti-terror activities.

During the 4th Industrial Revolution, there is an increasing risk of terrorist attacks using advanced unmanned technologies such as drone and autonomous ships.

The revision reflects the strong will of the maritime police to protect national security and people's precious lives and properties from terrorist attacks.
