The Korea Coast Guard will establish a "disaster safety communication network" that links the sea and land between November and 2010 to strengthen its ability to respond to marine disasters. Disaster safety communication networks built by the Ministry of Public Administration and Security are used on land such as KCG stations and patrol boxes.

The patrol vessel plans to secure a communication area 100 kilometers from the coast, by using the LTE-M (high-speed maritime radio network) built by the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries in the sea, and by linking satellite communication networks in the sea far away from the communication area.

Disaster safety communication network is a nationwide communication network that integrates the wireless communication network of disaster related organizations such as police, fire department, national defense, and local government, enabling rapid joint response in the event of a disaster.

The Korea Coast Guard will introduce 1,300 terminals for disaster networking this year, build infrastructure facilities such as a recording server in 2021, and add 5,200 terminals will be installed in 2022.

An official of the Korea Coast Guard said, "If disaster communication network is established, disaster related organizations will be able to respond quickly in the event of a marine disaster.
