The first Korea Coast Guard helicopter was retired from service after 31 years of service at the Yeosu Coast Guard Education Center on Thursday. According to the Korea Coast Guard Education Center, the retirement ceremony and completion ceremony of the Helicopter B501 (model name BELL-412SP) introduced by the Korea Coast Guard was held at the Korea Coast Guard Education Center on the 29th.
The retired bell is the first helicopter introduced by the maritime police in Septemb er 1989. At that time, he established an air force in Incheon and deployed a helicopter and four personnel to carry out multi-purpose tasks such as search and rescue, maritime security, and pollution control.
Over the past 31 years, Bell has carried out its mission for a total of 5,525 hours, or about 1,23,000 kilometers, or 30 times around the globe. The team accomplished 62 patrols, 6 rescue operations, and 8 searches on average each year.
In particular, the maritime police have shared their history with the search site of the 1993 sinking of the Yellow Sea ferry and the 1995 sinking of the Sea Prince. The Korea Coast Guard will display the helico pter at the Korea Coast Guard Education Center after Bell's retirement, considering its symbolism as the first helicopter of the Korea Coast Guard. When the exhibition hall is completed, visitors will be able to touch the helicopter, view the inside from the pilot's seat, and take commemorative photos.
Bell is expected to help train reserve maritime police officers to dream of the future along with the history of maritime police mountains. "The reason why Bell was able to carry out his mission safely while walking around the seas of Korea for more than 30 years is because of the efforts of many crew members," said korea coast guard official.
