The Korea Coast Guard announced that there were no Excursion and Ferry ship accidents in the first half of the year. There have been four operational disruptions, down 43 percent from an average of seven in the last three years. The main reason for the decrease in accidents number is social distance campaign and the completion of a series of amphibious landing bridges in the island area. In addition, continuous efforts to manage the safety of the Excursion and Ferry ship business and the improvement of the safety awareness of the operators and passengers contributed greatly to the reduction of accidents. The Korea Coast Guard has established annual guidelines for Excursion and Ferry ship business management this year, and has been implementing customized safety management suitable for the timing and region. Starting in July, the KCG plans to analysing the findings of the National Safety Assessment and establish special safety management measures to prevent maritime accidents even during the upcoming holiday season.
