The funeral ceremony for Senior police officer Jeong Ho-Jong, who sacrifices himself while rescuing divers trapped in a sea cave in Hongdo, Tongyeong, was strictly observed at the funeral hall of Tongyeong Seoul Hospital on the morning of the 9th. The funeral ceremony was attended by Kim Hong-hee, the commissioner general of the Korea Coast Guard, Koo Ja-young, the head of the South Regional Coast Guard Head quarters, and his colleagues and bereaved family members, who joined the deceased in tears.
6th of June, Senior police officer Jeong was dispatched after receiving a report that two divers who were scuba diving in Tongyeong, were isolated in a sea cave. Jeong and his rescue team members tried to rescue him by throwing a lifeline from the ship, but suffered from the narrow entrance to the cave and bad weather, and Jeong jumped into the sea himself and set up a rope to rescue divers before being isolated in the cave. Jeong's dedication saved the rescue team and two divers safely. However, Jeong showed signs of exhaustion because of nine hours of diving and swept away by the waves. He was found dead the next day.
