(2019.09.04.) Prevent Maritime pollution from FRP vessel
Writer 이은섭 Date 2019.12.17

The Korea Coast Guard said Tuesday that it will crack down on vessels made of glass fiber reinforced plastic (FRP) that were left unattended on the coast to prevent marine pollution. The KOREA Coast Guard plans to set up a joint crackdown team with the regional MAF offices and local governments to crack down on vessels made of glass fiber reinforced plastic (FRP) that were left unattended on the coast to prevent marine pollution.

Especially, joint crackdown team plan to investigate deregistered, or registration canceled  vessels, and punish ship owners after the investigation if these vessels are flooded or in poor management. Glass fiber reinforced plastic is a thin, thread-like form of glass fiber, which is often used to construct fishing boats by mixing them with ordinary plastic due to anti-rust, light and low cost advantages compared to other materials.

However, if FRP vessel is dismantled and left on the shore without being discarded, the plastic contained will separate and have an adverse effect on the human body or marine life.
