According to the Korea Coast Guard on Monday, the latest 50-tonnage crime prevention patrol ship(P-117) has been deployed at the port of Sokcho Coast Guard Station. The P-117 is going to carry out various missions at sea and replace the mission of the 25 tonnage class patrol ship that was suspended in january last year.
In order to help revive the local economy, such as domestic shipbuilding-related companies that suffer from decreased ship orders and restructuring, KCG contracted Korean shipbuilding companies and carried out the construction work.
With a length of 28.7 meters and a width of 5.4 meters, the P-117, equipped with two main engines and two water jets, has a maximum speed of 29 knots, allowing high-speed operation. The P-117 is scheduled to go through commissioning training before being put into full-scale maritime security missions in April.
